يزخر السودان برصيد وافر من التراث الشعبي الذي يمثل خليطا عربيا إفريقيا شكل الوجدان السوداني، وهو ثروة هائلة من والعادات والتقاليد والمعارف الشعبية والثقافة المادية والفنون التشكيلية والموسيقية، وتختلف الفنون من منطقة إلى أخرى نظراً لتعدد مكونات القبائل السودانية.
في جبال النوبة خاصية وخصوصية تبلورت عند السكان لمواجهة كافة أطوار المد والجزر في دائرة التعايش سلماً وحرباً، أنهم يعرفون كيف يرقصون للمآسي ينشدون في الأحزان أو يصفقون عند الابتلاءات.

The Nuba hail from South Kordofan state’s Nuba Mountains but thousands have migrated to Khartoum, fleeing conflict and poverty in their long-marginalised region.
Crowds in brightly coloured print shirts and Sudanese robes clapped and cheered on as dancers kicked dust into the air as they performed to traditional Nuba lyre music and poetry.
